Hotel Review – Vibe Hotel Hobart Tasmania with 2024 prices

Are you planning to visit Hobart and wondering where to stay in Hobart town to access all of Hobart’s attractions??

During our planning and research on our visit to Hobart, we knew that we wanted to be within walking distance to the major tourist attractions of Hobart such as:

  • Constitution Dock – 6-minute walk
  • Salamanca Market – 11-minute walk
  • Battery Point – 18-minute walk
  • Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery – 3 minutes
  • Ferry for MONA – Franklin Wharf 7 minutes
  • Parliament Square – 15 minutes walk away
  • Easy access to Hobart’s shopping precinct

When we had heard that the 4-star Vibe Hotel had opened in late 2020 and it was located in Argyle Street close to where we wanted to be based we knew that was the one for us.

Vibe Hotel Hobart reviews were favourable from their opening date. We always check reviews when booking hotels or restaurants.

Latest Review: “Might be the best 4-star standard hotel rooms I have ever been to. The room was clean, fresh, well designed, spacious, very polished, the bed and pillows were comfy and overall the room had everything needed for a quick night’s stay.”

Another plus was their on-site restaurant – the Belvedere. If we did not want to go out after a day of sightseeing the Belvedere Restaurant had a great menu for dinner. We could relax by the fire with a glass of Tasmanian wine or a local beer before heading into dinner.

History of the Vibe Hobart

The site that the Vibe Hobart is located on was once the home of an early pioneer – Anthony Fenn Kemp in the 1820s.

Argyle Street was named after Argyll in Scotland where Lachlan Macquarie, Australia’s 5th Governor, grew up. It runs from the Hobart waterfront precinct to New Town Road in New Town.

The location of the Vibe Hobart at 136 Argyle Street is 20 metres from Hobart’s freshwater supply up until the 1860s at the Hobart Rivulet.

The hotel’s interior pays homage to its early historical roots where a column of convict handmade bricks can be seen, some with convicts’ fingerprints, on the wall beside the fireplace. As you exit the main door look across the driveway and you will see sketches of Hobart during the 1800s.

Vibe Hobart Restaurant – The Belvedere

“The site’s colonial backstory serves as an entrée to its incarnation as ‘The Belvedere’ – a beloved Art Deco dance hall that shaped the city’s social fabric from the late 1930s. This story is memorialised in mesmerising chain art – featuring a 7.5m x 3m Kriskadecor panel.” taken from the website.

The Kriskadecor was certainly impressive!

The Belvedere is open for breakfast from 06.30 am to 10.30 am daily

The Belvedere Restaurant

Lunch is available from Monday to Saturday from 11.30 am to 14.30 pm

Dinner is available from Wednesday to Saturday from 17.30 pm to 21.00 pm.

In-room dining is available during restaurant open hours.

“Paying homage to this memory, the new ‘Belvedere’ will take its rightful spot as a modern-day gathering place, inviting travellers, corporate crowds and locals to celebrate the best of Tasmania.

From paddock to the seashore, the menu will showcase the Apple Isle’s rich bounty of produce, and Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon will share centre stage with Cape Grim Beef, local cheeses and artisan products.”

The Belvedere Restaurant is also a favourite for locals at breakfast. Part of the Royal Hospital of Hobart was opposite the Vibe Hotel and it was popular with staff and visitors as well.

On our last night, we had room service as we were exhausted from sightseeing. We can certainly recommend the beef cheeks and the mushroom and silverbeet tortellini.

When in Tasmania, you should try the Tasmanian wines. We were impressed with the Sauvignon Blanc from Nocton Vineyard that was on the menu at The Belvedere.

Final thoughts: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Vibe Hotel in Hobart. We would highly recommend the Vibe Hobart for its location, its well-appointed rooms, the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in and the Belvedere Restaurant. The staff were excellent during our stay, offering us suggestions on what to see and do and where to go.

Make sure that you spend a night with a drink by the fire and dinner at The Belvedere Restaurant, its a relaxing way to end a great day visiting Hobart.

We paid our own way during our stay at the Vibe Hotel in Hobart. All opinions are our own from our experiences during our stay. Would we return to stay at the Vibe Hotel again? Yes, definitely, it is one of the best hotels in Hobart!

During our stay in Hobart, we took two tours – a day tour to Port Arthur and a day tour to Bruny Island. Both were excellent ways to experience the best of Hobart and beyond. After leaving Hobart we embarked on a fun road trip up the East Coast of Tasmania staying in Coles Bay, Beaumaris Beach and Launceston.
