History of The Convent Hunter Valley
The Convent was initially constructed in Coonamble, New South Wales, in 1909. It was the home of the Brigidine Order of Nuns. The Brigidine Order of the Nuns were originally established in Ireland in 1807. They were a Roman Catholic order dedicated to helping the poor and the vulnerable, and providing education and service to those in need.
In 1990, The Convent made its 600 km east journey to the Hunter Valley. The building was divided into four sections and transported on seven loaders. It was rebuilt as close to the original as possible, but some timbers had to be remade. The rooms were expanded to create the spacious suites needed for the accommodation. It has the seal of approval from the Nuns who have visited.

Our Experience at The Convent Hunter Valley
The journey from Sydney takes approximately 2 hours to The Convent, located at 88 Halls Road, Pokolbin.
If you want to break your journey, we can recommend having brunch at Saddles, 20 Ashbrooke Road, Mount White. A lovely restaurant situated on a small lake, it has been named one of the most beautiful restaurants in the world by Condé Nast Traveller.
Check-in at The Convent set the tone for our two night stay—gracious, efficient, and genuinely welcoming.

Our luxurious, deluxe Queen-sized bedroom lived up to our expectations. The bedrooms at The Convent are beautifully furnished with a blend of period charm and modern comfort. Antique inspired pieces, rich fabrics, and cosy textiles create a homely feel.
The autumn visit gifted us stunning balcony views, with trees glowing in rich reds and oranges.
Our 25 m2 room came with an LCD TV, fridge, mini-bar, coffee and tea making facilities, hairdryer, bathtub, shower and toiletries. Everything that you need for a luxury two night stay.
Before heading out to dine at Circa 1876, a three minute walk from The Convent ,we enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine by the fire.

We can recommend making an advance reservation at Circa 1876, a hatted restaurant, that is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday and lunch on Friday and Saturdays. It is a set menu with a good selection of wines.

For breakfast in the downstairs restaurant in The Convent there are delicious choices from their a la carte menu.

Don’t forget to book a tasting at the Pepper Tree Wines whilst you are there. We just hope you have plenty of room in your car to take back home some of the best wines in the region.
