Tips on Visiting Wild Light Taronga Zoo

From Friday 27th May 2022 through to Saturday 18th June Vivid lights up the Sydney Skyline.

Wild Light at Taronga Zoo is located at Bradleys Head Road Mosman.

This is our experience on the first night of Wild Light Vivid Sydney.

The road leading to Taronga Zoo at 5.15 pm was already busy. Parking is available at the Zoo at a reduced rate. If you complete your visit within 1.5 hours parking is free, otherwise it is a flat fee of $11.00 if you arrive after 4.30 pm. As we got closer to the entrance gate we were amazed at the queues already. The 5.30 pm session is very popular with young families.

The gate opened at 5.25 and a small number of people were allowed in at a time. As you enter through the gates you are then ushered into another area where your tickets are checked. If you have used your Dine and Discover vouchers this is where you will need to show them so have them handy. Once checked you can take the pathway down to the left.

The pathways have been well planned for prams but at times we found that the path was not lit up well enough and you do need to watch where you are walking.

Wild Light Taronga Zoo estimated that the walk would take between 1 – 1.15 hours. At no time during our time there did we experience large crowds hindering our experience. You can have your photo taken at the Koala display with Sydney Harbour as the background. There are incredible views of Sydney Harbour and the Light Show from certain areas of the walk.

We completed the walk within 50 minutes.

Top tip: As you exit the Zoo there is a spectacular light show on the building to your right – this is definitely worth spending time viewing.

Tickets are purchased only through Moshtix. Sessions are only available from Wednesday to Sunday and a special night on Monday 13th June. Two sessions are available: 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm

Taken from the Moshtix site: “Wild Lights showcases a shared planet under the theme “Where Nature Shines” connecting wildlife of the land, of the sky and of the sea with three, never seen before, purpose-built, inclusive installations contributed by inaugural access and inclusion partner Cushman & Wakefield. They join installations and light sculptures from the renowned Ample Projects Mini Beasts collection and the breathtakingly beautiful Jellyfish Bloom. As well as festival-favourite animal lanterns from 14 different captivating species, from enchanting echidnas to a magnificent lion pride.

To enhance your Wild Lights experience, there are also a limited number of Sky Pass tickets to take you sky-high above the Vivid light walk. Sky Pass holders will have access to the Taronga Zoo Sky Safari to view the zoo from above and get a unique perspective of Vivid Sydney.

Taronga is a not-for-profit organisation. Every dollar you spend at Taronga goes directly back into the support, care and protection of wildlife.
